Longines Pocket Watch

This pocket watch is from a collector’s estate. It measures 2” wide, and it weighs 92 grams. The dial is marked Longines and 15 Jewels. The inside of the back and front covers are marked EFCO Longines and 0.900. The front of the dust cover is marked Longines 10 Grands Prix. The movement is marked Longines and 18.50N. The three covers and the movement are all marked with the same serial number 5684560.

The case is 900 silver, not quite sterling.

I wound the watch a bit, and after giving the watch a shake – it started to tick. The watch has been running for the past couple of hours. I have no idea how accurate or well the watch will work in the long run. The watch didn’t start running until I swished it.

The front cover flings open and latches shut seemingly as well as it should.

The back covers take a little effort to safely open – they are tight. The lips of the back cover and dust cover, along with all the related areas on the case, have heavy wear from the covers being opened many a time.

The front cover has a monogram that looks like the letter D (I could be wrong). This monogram is fading some on the right side.

This is what the watch looked like when I obtained it. I haven’t personally cleaned nor polished it. I think the watch looks great, but I did notice some dirtiness in the tight spots.

When I was studying the dial under a bright light, I notice some blotchy discoloration to the upper area when I would tilt it back and forth. I had to catch just the right amount of glare to recognize this inconspicuous discoloration to the dial. It might be an oil stain of sort.

The movement has a good deal of darkening, dullness and discoloration. There’s also some scratching. I wonder if the discoloration to the movement is from oil as well. I’m not an expert, but there just seems to be some aspects of this watch that are oily.

The current crystal has lots of scratching, dullness and cloudiness.

The lower inside area of the front cover, near the hinge, has some deeper scratching.

The case as a whole (inside and out) has light scratching and dullness. The pattern is worn and dulled with some loss and fading.

The sides of the case have a truly evident amount of pitting and related surface wear throughout. The lower side edge near the hinge has an approximate 1/4” flattened spot that is clearly a small ding or bump of sort.

I noticed that the center of the crown has a crescent moon and star symbol.

I know very little about pocket watches, so please help me out by closely reviewing the provided photos to best judge what you are offerding on.
