Obv/ UNIVERSAL.EXPOSITION.SAINT-LOUIS.UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The Personified Nation is welcoming under her protective arms a half naked young woman (personified Louisiana). In the exergue M.C.M.IV. what a beautiful allegory!
Rev/ An Eagle is standing up above a cartouche : Two dolphins are holding this cartouche, . simply GREAT !!! There are Fleurs de lis in angles.
Information and bibliography:
This BEAUTIFUL medal was engraved by Adolph Alexander Weinman (1870-1952). He was born in Germany but he went to the United States at the age of ten. Weinmann first studied at the Cooper Union School in New York, later for five years at the studio of the sculptor Martiny. He improved his artistic skills as a student of the famous Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Weinmann is very famous for designing the "Walking liberty" on the half-dollar and ten-cent coins of 1916.

Comment: This is a GREAT, GREAT MEDAL !It was struck for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, 1904 . It's in a very BEAUTIFUL GRADE, with a light brown patina. This medal belongs also to the history of the Olympics Games which took place in Saint-Louis at the same time. ( Gold, silver medals were all struck in bronze). What could we say.. such an Art-Work is a Pure Beauty..and this medal is a GREAT MEDAL ! and at last, but not the less, it is still in its ORIGINAL BOX stamped in golden letters on the cover with the words : "UNIVERSAL EXPOSITION-1904-SAINT LOUIS" . est. $250/300 & SALE
