The Fragrance Foundation announces Annie Buzantian as 2015 Perfumer of the Year.

Buzantian, Master Perfumer at Firmenich, is responsible for some of the most iconic fragrances of our time including Estée Lauder Pleasures for Women, Ralph Lauren Safari for Men and Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger.

Arriving in New York City with her family from Romania at age 20, Buzantian took a job as a laboratory assistant at Givaudan, then known as Universal Oil Products. It was a pivotal time in fragrance history as new ideas, fashion and opportunities for women were emerging. She was quickly promoted to perfumer trainee.

Buzantian stood out as an industry rising star and was soon recruited by Firmenich. Within one year, she created her first fragrance, Love’s Musky Jasmine. In 1988, Buzantian was named Master Perfumer at Firmenich, the first woman to hold this title.

“Annie Buzantian is a true talent in the fragrance industry,” says Elizabeth Musmanno, President of The Fragrance Foundation. “We’re thrilled to acknowledge Annie as this year’s Perfumer of the Year as she is a master of her trade.”

Buzantian is only the third perfumer to receive this prestigious award. Previous recipients are IFF’s Carlos Benaim and Firmenich’s Alberto Morillas.

She will be honored at The Fragrance Foundation Awards 2015 on Wednesday, June 17th, 2015 at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center in New York City.
