A very pretty, genuine antique apron. Quite unusual, in that this beauty is black, with wonderful Broderie Anglaise hand embroidery in a wide band at the hem. The embroidery is completely hand done in a pleasant shade of cinnamon brown which highlights the designs perfectly. Dates to the late Victorian to Edwardian period and is in very good, clean condition. The apron is a fine light semi sheer batiste, cotton or linen, and the embroidery is a linen thread. Hem has lovely openwork/faggoting along the borders. All hand sewn, with a nicely gathered waistband for added fullness. Long ties in back, and full sweeping hem. Measures 38\" long. Hem sweep is 58\". Waistband, not counting the ties, is 22\". Ties on EACH side are 17\" long. A touch of Victorian Gothic for the dining room sort of Downton Abbey meets Steampunk! Wonderful to wear for that special holiday dinner, or give as a one-of-a-kind gift for the holidays. , but I have added a Buy It Now feature in case someone want this right away.
