PROVENANCE : Collection of Geraldine Siegriest (1925 - 1985)
Born in Oakland, California, Lundy Siegriest was a modernist painter whose work spanned pure abstraction to plein-air landscape painting. He first worked in the thick impasto style of the Abstract Expressionists but in the late 1950s moved to figurative images inspired by mummies he had seen in Guanajuato Mexico. He also had a passion for painting cows, horses, and wildlife.
In the 1970s, he became part of a nucleus of painters including Terry St. John who revived more traditional approaches. They began painting landscapes in a broad painterly style related both to the Bay Area figurative tradition and the plein-air painting of the \"Society of Six.\" (Louis Siegriest, Lundy\'s father, was one of the \'Six\'). Lundy and Terry often painted together \"en plein air\" in the countryside around Mt. Diablo.
Lundy Siegriest appeared in one man and group exhibitions, notably at the Whitney Museum in New York and in the traveling exhibition, \"17 American Painters\", which included Richard Diebenkorn, Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Motherwell, and Ad Reinhardt, which opened at the Brussels World Fair in 1958.
Siegriest\'s paintings are held by major museums, including the Denver Art Museum, the Oakland Museum of California, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
Lundy Siegriest was raised in the family mansion in Oakland and attended the California College of Arts and Crafts. Many works by the artist have been sold at major sale houses.
Lundy Siegriest was a member of the Bohemian Club in San Francisco. He died in SHIPPING NOT OFFERED DUE TO SIZE
