This is the first LVC reproduction year 501 to feature belt loops. Belts started appearing with fine clothing after World War 1, and soon after the use of belts appealed to younger working men. While featuring the new innovation of belt loops, the rear cinch was not removed from the design, nor were the suspender buttons that were part of previous years\' 501 designs. This makes the 1922 501 exclusively unique. It is the only reproduction 501 that gives the wearer the option of wearing a belt, wearing suspenders, cinching the rear cinch, or both of the latter. Many of the young working men of the time would cut the cinch straps off of the 501s to allow the belts they wore to sit flush against the jeans. Many of the older working men still preferred what they were used to and kept wearing suspenders while utilizing the cinch mechanism.Lots of options! Lots of history! Lots of fun!
The 1922 501 jean is a high waisted jean with a roomy top block and very straight legs with only a slight taper providing enough room for workers to move comfortably while not appearing baggy or being so loose as to snag while working. Choose, the size that will give you the appropriate fit. If your true waist size is 32, size down to tag size 31 for fitted wear, or stick to tag size 32 for the intended relaxed roomy working man fit. These are shrink-to-fit jeans and will shrink approximately 1.5 to 2+ inches in the waist and 2 inches in length upon a cold to luke-warm soak/wash. Aggressively shrinking the jeans with hot soaks or washes and heat applied drying can yield greater results in shrinking, up to 2+ inches in the waist and 3+ inches in length, but is not recommended. The denim will stretch considerably with wear.
