MANY CHERUBIM Antique 18th-19thC French Gold Metallic Brocade Silk COPE Vestment:

Rare antique silk brocade vestment - a spectacular piece, with fifteen beautiful and expressive cherubim. Circa late 18th to early 19th century. Likely French, and absolutely gorgeous.
The piece measures 22 x 23 inches, not including the 3 inch bullion fringe.
Color note: the panel is darker than the photos sometimes show - it picks up the light easily because of the metallic threads. The background is much more dark gray than cream. We have to add, this vestment has a lot of sparkle in the right light! The 3rd and 4th photos were taken in the early evening, and the vestment really picked up the lengthening rays. It made us think back to its origins, and how it would have glistenedin candlelight - the only light available. Probably it looked almost mystical...
Condition is excellent. We note some darkening to the trim on one side (2nd last photo), and some wear to the dove (3rd last photo). This looks fabulous.
