Originally published in 1923, this wonderful book provides a comprehensive history of the Medical Department during the American Civil War. The book discusses early battles and how casualty and medical treatment evolved during the course of the Civil War. It uses some of the major battles of the war to discuss specific organization, equipment, training and procedures for care. Complete with illustrations and maps, the book provides a preface, and studies of the Battle of Bull Run, Pope’s Virginia Campaign, the Evolution of the Ambulance Corps and Field Hospitals, the Battle of Antietam – the bloodiest day of the in American history, the Battle of Fredericksburg, Gettysburg – the High Tide of the Confederacy, the Battle of the Wilderness, and Sherman’s March to the Sea.

Out-of-print, this book is in excellent condition. It is clean, sharp, bright, and solidly bound with no shortcomings and comes in the original dust jacket as well. The book has no wear. The pages are clean, bright white, and don’t have a mark on them. It contains illustrations and maps. An excellent condition history of the Army Medical Department during the Civil War.
