Outstanding MegaRare Antique BronzeCeremonial Mask circa late 1800, Tikar, Cameroon, 17\"x 9 1/2\" use and age patina.
Less known than the bronzes of Benin, the Tikars bronzes also stand in African art by their finesse.
This Superb Tikar maskissymbolic which is unknown to us, the face finely crafted and has a nice patina. It is surmounted by a mythical animal.
The Tikar are a pygmy people found in western Cameroon. The Tikar people is a mixed new population because traditionally conquering. They submit to the system of traditional chiefs, inserted within broader historical kingdoms.
The Tikar people have focused on education for generations. Teachers taught boys vocational skills which included craft-making, woodcarving, mask carving and making bronze sculptures.
