MWANA HITI. LIFE AND ART OF THE MATRILINEAL BANTU OF TANZANIA

by Marc Leo Felix, N. Batuwkisi, B. Tursch, K. Weinrich.

Munchen Fred Jahn Verlag 1990. 28 x 22 cm. 505 pages, 481 photographs, 8 drawings, 3 figures, 12 maps. Text in english and german. Cloth cover, very slight bump on the bottom of spine, otherwise perfect condition, in slipcase. Edition limited to 1,000 copies.

The first treatise on the mwana hiti, the wooden, highly stylized torso of a female figure, this important volume accompanied a major 1990 exhibition of mwana hiti and other objects of Tanzanian art at the Fred Jahn Gallery in Munich. Impressively thorough with almost 500 excellent photographs and containing important essays and research data on stylistic differences, typology, and the ethnography of Zaramo and Kwere peoples of Eastern Tanzania, this study is another impressive work by an author whose writings are a boone to collector and scholar alike. Bibliography

Shipment by economy mail - envoi économique : Belgium = 8 eur - France = 10 eur (colissimo) - to other european countries = 11 eur - to non european countries = 14 eur
(Envoi en courrier prioritaire pour la Belgique et la France - shipment as book by economy mail to other countries - if you wish an other way of shipment contact me)
Important warning - rates for shipment by registered mail with tracking number - tarif pour envoi avec suivi I had to face recently problems with very slow delivery of several parcels, especially those sent to the US. The parcels were sent quickly after payment (as fixed in the adverts), by economy mail from France = without tracking number. By experience this much cheaper way of payment (much cheaper than by registered mail recommended by paypal) is and remains reliable (all the parcels arrived finally). But delivery took sometimes between a month and 6 weeks, a situation that didn't happen earlier when delivery was almost always done between 2 and 3 weeks after shipment. These delays made the buyers and myself anxious and nerveous, and my paypal account was even blocked because of these delays in which I have no responsability. I'm always ready to send the parcels by economy mail but the customer has to know how slow it can be. So, I will add in the final invoice the choice between economy mail and registered mail with costs of each system and let the customer decide what he prefers. Here are the rates for registered shipment, with tracking number (compare with the costs of shipment by economy mail as fixed in the description part of the advert), sent from Belgium and from France, I will take the cheapest solution following weight and destination :Sent from Belgium (in euros, to convert in US$ multiplicate the amount in eur by 1.3) Netherlands, Lxbg other EU countries to other european to the other non european countries
below 350 g 9 eur 9 eur 9 eur 13 eur
350 to 1 kg 13 eur 13 eur 13 eur 22 eur
1 to 2 kg 17 eur 26 eur 26 eur 43 eur
2 to 5 kg 17 eur 33 eur 33 eur 66 eur
5 to 10 kg 17 eur 50 eur 66 eur 130 eurSent from France here are the rates for similar weights and destinations : to other european to US and Canada to the other non european countries (except Canada and USA)
below 999 g 17 eur 24 eur 27 eur
1 kg to 1,999 kg 18 eur 32 eur 40 eur
