This beautiful, gold washed, silver enamel lace pin was undoubtedly created by the celebrated Norwegian silversmith, Marius Hammer (1847-1927). Marius Hammer began to produce enamel jewellery in 1890. I believe this piece dates to circa 1900.

The rectangular pin measures 2.3cms by 1.8cms.

The pin has a pretty , outline formed of delicate gold washed scrolls with loops punctuated with tiny roundels of white enamel. In the centre is a rectangle of the most lovely white enamel. There are fine lines radiating outwards from the centre beneath the enamel creating a shimmering effect.

On the back there is a solid ,old style c clip which is most certainly an old replacement. There might originally have been a little tag with the master\'s signature.

This delightful and most delicate of pins pin is in fine, antique condition. All the enamel and gold wash are intact . To the naked eye it looks perfect but on close examination there is some tarnish to the gold finish on the scrolls.

Marius Hammer founded his workshop in the late nineteenth century in Bergen, Norway. Along with David Andersen and Jacob Tostrup he was a pioneer in the development of enamel jewellery. Items by Marius Hammer are always wonderful and quite rare.
