This is a Massive Original Confederate D-Guard Fighting Knife from my personal collection. This knife measures about 23 1/2\" overall with an 18 3/4\"clip-point blade. The blade is 1 1/2\" in width and widens to 1 3/4\" at the clip-point. The spine of this blade measures a whopping 5/16\" (almost 1/3\") and narrows to 1/4\" near the tip. The blade is in near mint condition, showing several forging marks and great patina and still retains a sharp edge. The large one-piece oak handle is free of cracks or chips and is formed to fit the hand. The knuckle guard is about 1\" wide and the iron knuckle guard still retains most of the gold paint applied to it by a Confederate soldier to simulate the fancy brass hilted swords and bowie knives carried by Union soldiers. The blade tang is peened over at the pommel. Everything is still as tight as when it was made by a skilled blacksmith to serve the Southern Cause. Included is documentation from the well known collector I purchased this knife from that states he obtained this Confederate D-Guard from a relative of the Union soldier in a Michigan unit that took it back North as a war trophy. It\'s getting much harder to find these high quality untouched Confederate fighting knives.
