Humberto Pina is one of the cool young guys of Mata Ortiz who is creating exceptionally well done pottery in an affordable range of prices. His talent is enormous. Humberto is exactly the kind of talent that we like to support, a great artists and a fine young man who is supporting his own family through his artwork. We love his work! We have been drawn to Humberto\'s work since we very first started coming to Mata Ortiz. His cousins are Martin, Eduardo and Hector Quintana, and he shares their love of the sgraffito style. Sgraffito is the technique of building up layers of paint and then etching in designs that reveal the color of the actual clay below. It is an added level of difficulty to properly achieve, and it adds a beautiful textural element to the artwork. His animal, bird and reptile designs are outstanding! This piece features a three sided design of a turtle, lizard / iguana, and a gorgeous humming bird. There is also an etched stylized sacred macaw symbol that add a great traditional symbol to this piece. This pot is signed by the artist.
