Beautiful, elegant 1941 McCLELLAND BARCLAY deco necklace. The bejeweled Gatsby-esh two-section pendant is layered and fixed atop (riveted) the goldtone frame and features eight emerald cut and two baguette sapphire blue crystals accented by clear pave paste rhinestones. The centerpiece is hand-wired from a bejeweled element and suspended from a beautiful bookchain style necklace. Fastens via a foldover style clasp. Gold and rhodium-plated base metal.

Measures 20\"L. The pendant element measures 3\"L (the two bejeweled sections) by 2 1/2\" at widest (pendant).

Signed McCLELLAND BARCLAY.

Excellent, extraordinay vintage condition (the exception rather than the rule) with sparkly rhinestones and the teensiest/miniscule areas of wear to gold plating.

Looks stunning when worn!

Book references here of a similarly designed brooch can be found on page 200 of Marcia \'Sparkles\' Brown\'s \'Signed Beauties of Costume Jewelry\' and in Brunialti\'s \'American Costume Jewelry, Art & Industry, 1935-50.

McClelland Barclay (1891-1943) worked as an illustrator, sculptor and painter. He extended his talents to making very stylized Art Deco jewelry using rhinestones in the colors of genuine stones on gold plated metal. He also created sculpture-like jewelry in sterling silver.

With his short jewelry making career coming to an abrupt end in World War ll, his jewelry is very rare and highly collectible. McClelland Barclay jewelry is not to be confused with Barclay jewelry also manufactured around the same time. McClelland Barclay jewelry is marked with his full name. McClelland Barclay\'s life ended when his ship was torpedoed near Australia in July, 1943.
