Medallion 3\" honoring Henry Ware Lawton Civil War MOH recipient:
$14.95

For your consideration is a 3\" medallion honoring Major General Henry Ware Lawton, who was a Civil War Medal of Honor recipient. The medal appears to be made of brass or bronze and is approximately 1/4 inch in thickness. It\'s a nice heavy piece.
Just over a century ago, Henry Ware Lawton was the most famous and celebrated soldier in America. His exploits in the Civil War, Indian Wars, Spanish American War and the Philippine War read like the most fantastic adventure stories. A brevet colonel and Medal of Honor recipient before the age of 23, Lawton first gained fame as the captor of Geronimo.
A decade later during the Spanish-American War, Lawton was the victor at the Battle of El Caney, Cuba (1 July 1898), the largest land battle fought since the Civil War. The indestructible warrior - never wounded in 40 years of service - was killed at the battle of San Mateo
Lawton was born on March 17, 1843 (St. Patrick\'s Day) and died on December 1899. He apparently was a descendant of Brian Boru, the High King of Ireland who was killed in the Battle of Clontarf in Battle of Clontarf on April 23, 1014, thus the tie in for reverse image of this unique piece.
This medal is a unique military and also Irish heritage collectible honoring an American hero. Very unique and RARE!
