This shield bears the coat of arms of Richard the Lionheart. Richard the Lion Heart is known as one of the great Warrior kings of England. Although, he was king of England he did not speak English, and was only in England for 6 months. The rest of his reign was on the battle field. He was known for his skilled military command and bravery. During his time he took parts of France, fought Sicily into truce, captured Cyprus and almost captured Jerusalem. After so many victories it was a cross bow bolt in the shoulder that killed him. As he was carried away from the field he saluted the man that had shot him. On his death bed he ordered that the man that shot him be set free and given a sum of money.Three majestic lions adorn the front. This particular lion is called \"lion passant\" which is a lion walking, with the right fore paw raised and all others on the ground. Lions generally represent courage, valor, and strength. These lions lie on a red background meaning Eagerness to serve his country as a warrior and martyr. The edges have been blackened to frame the bright red.
