George Jones\'s and Merle Haggard\'s first album together in 1982. Both admirer\'s of one another, they first met in 1961 when both were legendary drunks and legendary no-shows or \"drunk shows.\" They were both great fans of Lefty Frizzel and Hank Williams and they titled their first album after Willie\'s \"Yesterday\'s Wine\" offering. It was a #1 Country Billboard hit. They did not make another album together until 2006.
My dad knew both very well. He and Merle were extremely close the last two years before they both died close together in early 2016 and stayed in touch with one another weekly. Pop was the premier GOLD & PLATINUM awards maker for 50 years on Music Row. You can see many of his creations from those decades of work I inherited in his estate at this IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE AUTOGRAPHS YOU RECEIVE WILL NOT APPEAR THE SAME AS THEY DO IN THIS LISTING. MY FATHER HAD MANY COPIES OF THIS PHOTO SIGNED BY GEORGE AND MERLE AND WHEN ONE IS SOLD, I SIMPLY \"RELIST\" THE SAME ORIGINAL LISTING YOU\'RE LOOKING AT WITHOUT TAKING PHOTOS OF A NEW AUTOGRAPHED PHOTO. MANY ARE SIGNED ON TOP OF THE PHOTO RATHER THAN NEAR THE CENTER, SO DO NOT BE ALARMED THAT THE HAND-SIGNED PHOTO YOU RECEIVE LOOKS DIFFERENT THAN THE PHOTO SHOWN HERE.
The set comes with a Certificate of Authenticity with photos of my dad with both George & Nancy and presenting Merle with a 5-Platinum award. My father worked with Epic Records and had their promotional photos reproduced at Midtown Printing in Nashville, where he had tens of thousands of pieces of artwork printed or copied for his awards making. The photos are not the greatest quality from 30+ years ago, but the autographs are great.
I have not been able to locate any other co-signed photos from George & Merle.
