Up for sale is an original set of the \"Small Set\" of Meyers Knoversations-Lexikon or Meyers Lexikon encyclopedia set in the German language. This set was published between the years 1908 and 1910 after the 1st WW. Joseph Meyer (1796-1856) was the founder of the publishing house, Bibliograph-isches Institute in 1826. He intended to issue a universal encyclopedia meant for a broad public: people having a general knowledge, as well as business people, technicians and scholars. He considered the contemporary works like those of Pierer & Brockhaus to be superficial and obsolete. His son continued the business. After the 6th printing of the larger sets, 240,000 sets were sold. Unfortunately, World War I prevented the ongoing larger sets being published and the set of six was issued. Because this was a smaller set it has been counted separately from the number of larger version sets, and is therefore quite unique. A 7th and 8th set followed years later with more volumes. Each book has approximately 1000 pages.
This is a unique and rare set of books with extensive drawings, pictures and information regarding numerous topics.
It is expected the pictures will reflect the quality of this set of 6 encyclopedias which was not only a major accomplishment, but hugely successful.
