This exquisite museum quality slab floor vase is by Mid-Century potter William Wyman. A word-covered, tombstone like slab vessel, that he called “Temples”, were among the distinguished genres of William Wyman‟s work. Wyman (1922- 1980) studied at Mass College of Art and at Alfred and earned an M.A. from Columbia. By 1958 he was an assistant professor at Mass.

This slab vase is a flattish, glazed stoneware vessel, its brutalized surface incised with the words \"Be Gentle\" \"So As To Receive\" \"LOVE\". The abused surfaces convey the feeling of contemporary graffiti. Overall, it\'s in good condition though the back of the vase was broken at some point, as shown. It has been professionally glued back together, and we suggest sending it to a restorationist to finish the piece off.

William Wyman died while he was in the prime of his life, and there are very few examples of his work that show up for sale. This is an extraordinary example of his slab vase series, to add to your MCM art collection.
