Heavy Bronze North European Pricket Candlestick.
Cica 1580.
Pricket candlesticks of this size were generally for the household and not religious as is often mistaken and being bronze or brass they were normally first owned by the wealthy as most people could not afford to buy or make large candles let alone have a basemetal candlestick to mount it in. Everyone else usaully made rushlights or small candlesticks held in inferior wooden and iron holders or just plain wood.
In very good original condition the spike was probabley another inch taller but luckily from a historic point of view, no one has replaced it or filed it to a point.
