This 3D mixed media artwork pays tribute to Mother Teresa, a Catholic nun who ministered to the poor, sick, and orphaned in India and surrounding areas. In it her contributions and accomplishments have been explored by the artist, Alan Derrick.

ARTIST STATEMENT
This artwork pays tribute to Mother Teresa. She was an Albanian Catholic nun with Indian citizenship who founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India in 1950. By the 1970s, she was internationally famed as a humanitarian and advocate for the poor and helpless. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and in 1980 the Bharat Ratna, India\'s highest civilian honor, for her humanitarian work. For over 45 years she ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying and following her death she was beatified by Pope John Paul II and given the title Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.

TECHNIQUE
This 3D pop artwork features layers of intricately cut steel mounted over a floating panel. The artist introduces visual depth to the piece by allowing each suspended layer to cast a shadow over the next. It is hand painted and signed by the artist to closely match the example pictured.
