Ideal ‘Piccolo’ Swiss Music Box with three Interchangeable by renowned firm of Mermod Freres, circa 1890, with three interchangeable nickel-plated cylinders.
This rare music box was originally purchased by Charles Edward Firth of the Providence Dye Works (Philadelphia, New York, and Providence Rhode Island) and has remained in my family since then. For an old instrument, this unit has some very innovative controls: fast/slow, pause/stop, soft muting, song indicator, and repeat controls all of which work. I spent many a summer night listening to the songs from this classic music box. The unit is in 100% playable condition and includes the following three cylinders:

The case, measuring 31” by 15” by 11.5”, has nominal wear. The combs, dampers, zither, spring, Jacot Safety Check (to prevent ‘runs’), and so on are all in excellent condition. The songs from all the cylinders were recently recorded and are available on iTunes, “Music Box Memories” [link removed by ].
Cosmetic issues: celluloid key plates missing (the pieces of one plate are enclosed), leather strap to open glass lid has deteriorated, and celluloid logo (normally attached to the inside lid is included, but not attached). Other than these, the unit is in great condition and has never had to be restored.
