Offered for sale by Caspar’s Place is a sterling silver mustard ladle in “Washington” introduced in 1911 by Wallace. The ladle is marked with Wallace’s maker’s mark and “STERLING.”

The ladle is engraved with a gothic “M” monogram. It is in good estate condition, with the exception of some dark tarnish in the bowl which may or may not come off with a thorough polishing. In addition, it has the patina of fine scratches to be expected with age and use. The piece’s price reflects its condition. This mustard ladle will make a lovely addition to any silver collection.

The ladle weighs approximately 0.43 troy ounces. It is roughly 4.75” long.

Wallace Silversmithstraces its beginnings back to Robert Wallace who made the first nickel spoon in America in 1835. The son of an immigrant silversmith from Scotland, Wallace was born in Prospect, Connecticut, in 1815. In 1871, after his apprenticeship and a series of endeavors as a silversmith, Robert Wallace, along with two of his sons, renamed their growing business in Wallingford, Connecticut, “R. Wallace and Sons Manufacturing Company.” In 1875, Wallace introduced the first three sterling patterns, soon followed by sterling and silver-plated hollowware, to feature the esteemed Wallace name. After Robert Wallace died in 1892, his sons and son-in-law continued the business. It grew to be the largest manufacturer of flatware in the world.
