This was a really nice find: a gorgeous New Old Stockexample of an early-production1960s Schwinn Sting-Ray speedometer by Huret which spent several decades sitting in storage. This is an early-production, late-1960s example, as seen by its gray sealing gasket around the glass inside (where all later ones are black) and by its die-cast retainer nut on the back (under the mounting clamp) where all later ones are solid brass. It was complete with its New Old Stock mounting bracket; the only piece I had to add was a used carriage bolt and nutfor the handlebar clamp.

Ithad been put awayafter having seized up from years of storage in the box, but it hasnow had a complete rebuild and isback in full working order. This example shows the thick, almost gloppy, mirror-like chrome finish that Huret put on their earlier speedos (you can see the reflection of the camera tripod in photo 5), and polished back up to a very nice shine. This isa greatfinishing touch for your Sting-Ray or Krate. Ithas beenfreshly lubricated, polished, waxed and reassembled, turning freely and ready to go.

The speedometer head is 2 3/8\" wide, 2¼\" high and 1 5/8\" deep. It has a polished chrome rim, glass face, and chrome housing, with white numbers on a black dial, and a brightorange pointer. All chrome waspolished to restore the shine, andwaxed to keep it that way.There is no accumulated mileage; it\'s justapproaching 0000.1.
