This listing is for a wonderful Chinese mirror most likely dating to the late 19th century. The mirror is made of copper with colorful and elaborate enameled designs accenting the exterior. The mirror is fitted with a finely carved jade belt hook acting as the handle which was most likely carved earlier than the mirror itself. The belt hook is carved with in the form of a large dragon head peering back at a chilong carved with openwork. The stone is of a light celadon/greyish color with a russet colored inclusion on the side surrounding a natural fissure. The mirror measures 12 inches (30.5cm) in length overall with the jade measuring just under 5 inches (12.5cm) long. There is wear to the surface of the copped around the exterior of the mirror. The glass remains in excellent condition. The jade is in very good condition as well. There is a small indentation next to the fissure of the jade that appears to be original in the making as it is polished. A beautiful and early example of a Chinese mirror with a wonderful piece of jade. (#4199-2)
