Staff Sgt Edward J Holland was born in Schenectady, New York on March 22, 1922 and enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on January 5, 1942 which was less than one month after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. He was a member of the HQ Battalion / 2nd Marine Division during the Campaigns of Tarawa, Saipan/Tinian and Okinawa. Sgt Holland received a Citation from the Commanding General \"For meritorious conduct....(photo included) for his actions during these campaigns. However, File indicates Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with 1 star and has the excerpt for \"engaging in action on Okinawa\". Not sure if the file is just incomplete and fails to mention additional stars which happens or he was serving in an administrative role during Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian and wasn\'t eligible for a star. Very difficult to find a named P41 jacket to a 2nd Division Marine who was with the Division this long and saw combat as these seldom come up for sale and named combat items are much more difficult to find than named greens for the 2nd Marine Division. Jacket has a great salty look to it and definitely a look where it may have been worn during combat! Missing a couple front buttons and some holes as seen in photo...just a great combat look to it. Holland\'s named stenciled on the back. Inside collar has Holland\'s initial and last four of his service number. US Sales only.
