Emperor of the French 1852-70, the nephew and heir of Napoleon I. FirstPresident of France 1848-52, therefore holding the distinction of being thefirst titular president and the last monarch of France.

Autographed lettersigned “Napoleon”. 1p., double-page, 5.0 x 8.0 inch, embossed crest at the top,Wilhelmshöhe (castle Wilhelmshöhe, Kassel, Germany), 1871 January 7. Letter to thejournalist and bonapartiste Paul Granier de Cassagnac (1843-1904). In French: “Jevous remercie des voeux que m'adressez et surtout du zèle que vous me témoignezen vous chargeant de défendre ma cause et de confondre mes ennemis...” Mailingfolds, slightly stained, else fine condition. From 5 September 1870 until 19 March 1871, Napoleon III. were held incomfortable captivity in a castle at Wilhelmshöhe, Kassel. Rare letter from histime in Germany.
