This hand coiled and carved bowl was made by well known artist, Vicky Martinez. She is a very talented Santa Clara artist. This particular pot features a traditional avanyu design. The vessel stands out among other avanyu designs because the etchings have a bit more detail to them than others and part of that comes from the prayer feather design around the top of the piece. The piece is also very symmetrical and light weight for being a Santa Clara piece. This piece has a very beautiful, mirror like polish and is beautifully etched and fairly deeply carved. This particular piece has the dark orange/redish clay rather than the dark black. The piece is thicker walled and a very nice shape to it. It is very symmetrical and is the perfect size and shape to fit almost anywhere. The piece is signed in etching on the bottom as shown.
