The painting depicts Matichines dancers, and although a very traditional dance, the painting has a modernist feel to it. The painting retains it\'s original gallery frame and has been triple matted. The piece is extremely well done. Most importantly, this piece is coming from the estate of Jan Cowles, one of the most important contemporary art collectors in the world. This piece may be a sleeper, as Jan Cowles is most famous for her expensive art collection. Some of the paintings from her collection have sold for MILLIONS of dollars. Jan Cowles has some items from her collection hanging in the Metropolitan Museum. Her Hamptons home is for sale with a listed price of $25 MILLION dollars. A quick Google search of Jan Cowles can verify how good this estate is. Although I tried researching it, all I know is the artist is Native American.
