Nazca (Nasca) / Huari ( Wari) ancient textile coca bag from Pre Columbian Peru:
$3200.00

This is a very rare Nazca/Wari tapered coca bag from thesouth coast of Peru Circa 700AD. This tapered style of weaving was an innovationat the time it was created. Previously, weaving form design was thought of in termsof square blocks and right angles. There is a great article specifically aboutthis type of bag, written by Junius Bird, in the Textile Museum Journal Dec1964 Vol. 1 Number 3. There are also several similar bags pictured in theonline photo archive of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. Like most ofthese types of bags, this one has some condition issues but at has beenprofessionally conserved and looks great with deep color and strong Iconography. Thefigures are often referred to as jaguars, but I think they may be monkeys. Thisitem lacks the feather tassels hanging on the bottom fringe. I’ve know ofperfect examples with a full feathered fringe selling for as much as $30,000(see feathered example pictured). The framed item is 17\" x 18\".
