Make sure to check all of my listings after you look at this one. I\'ve put together another eclectic selection of antiques and collectibles, and I suspect there will something to interest just about everyone.Here\'s a pristine, working, 100% original Grebe CR-14 regenerative battery radio, manufactured in Richmond Hill, New York in 1923. The CR-14 was a \"living room friendly,\" dry cell version of the CR-12, whose sophisticated tuning section required as few as 40 feet of antenna line to tune stations from around the world. With a battery box built into the back of the cabinet, as well as storage space for headphones and an antenna, the CR-14 contained everything necessary to enjoy radio at the dawn of the broadcast era. The only thing not included with the set was a horn speaker. Though powered by dry cell, low amperage tubes, the CR-14\'s output section was remarkably robust, able to power most horns (purchased separately) to reasonably loud levels.
Condition of this set is excellent to near mint throughout. The brushed bakelite panel is pretty much flawless, with crisp, legible lettering everywhere, no chips around the screw holes or corners, no gouged bakelite along the edges. Tuning dials are original and in excellent condition, with no issues. All tuning controls work properly, and the dials turn easily. Chassis is in excellent condition, with original wiring throughout. Tuner is still tightly wound, with clean wire.
Walnut cabinet is in fantastic original condition, with its original finish still intact and still glossy. The lid is perfectly flat, with no warping or other issues. All joints are snug and secure. Original metal Armstrong tag is still present on the back of the cabinet. Original Grebe decal on the underside of the lid is in excellent condition, with no scarring, and both of the paper cards detailing battery connections and battery layout are intact, original, and in excellent condition. All binding post assemblies are original and complete and in excellent condition.
The radio includes 3 good tubes that have been tested in the radio. The radio still works very well, picking up a wide range of stations when tuned carefully. If you wish to operate it, you\'ll need the proper outdoor straightwire copper antenna, an appropriate DC power supply (I\'d recommend an ARBEIII), some knowledge of how to tune a 1920\'s battery radio, and a good indoor ground connection. Of course it will also help to have had some experience using a 1920s\' battery radio.
That\'s about it. I will package the radio properly so that it arrives at your doorstep safely. Due to the radio\'s size and weight, it cannot be shipped to some countries. If you\'re offerding from outside the USA, please contact me in advance for a shipping quote that I can confirm my ability to ship it to you. I have been shipping antique phonographs and radios for years, and if you check my response, you\'ll see that I know how to do it correctly.
