It is well carved with openwork and depicts a fox or wolf. This plaque is small and likely a fragment of what was once a larger plaque. It likely dates to the 18th or early 19th century. This plaque has been mounted as a pin. The metal may be gold, but I cannot guarantee it. This pin is a little under 1 1/4 inches at its greatest dimension. It weighs about 5.4 grams overall. As was mentioned, this plaque is likely a portion of a larger plaque. In addition there is minor wear from age and use. There is also some loss above the creatures head as well as very minor other loss to the edges. There is craquelure in the amber, most visible on the back. The clasp of the pin is as is. This fine antique Chinese carved amber plaque mounted as a pin is fresh from an old estate.
