This box/jar is a very fine example that is carved out of authentic cinnabar lacquer.The beautiful poeny flowers arejust carved out out of the cinnabar lacquer. On the top of the cover it is carved with a big beautiful poeny flower. On the side body of the main box and the brim of the coverare also designed withauspicious flower patterns. The insidesurface are covered with a layer of black lacquer.Such item iscalled carved lacquerware which is a traditional Chinese craft originated fromTang dynasty. In Yuan and Ming dynasty such craft was introduced into Beijing and developed into the summit. Later it becomes a famous craft in Beijing. The superb craftmanship shows the Chinese world well-known artistic skills to a high level.The condition is old but very good.
