Early Very Large Antique Powder Horn, Revolutionary War Period

DESCRIPTION:Very early, large antique American Revolutionary War period powder horn. Scans show size relative to a dollar bill. Measures 12\" long across the tips, or 14\" along the curve. Much larger than a typical horn.

This large size was typically used by a military rifleman, to hold the large powder charges of a military musket and the number of rounds that would be expended during a battle. This one dates to the Revolutionary War, based on the style of the horn, the overall patina, the size, and the appearance of the pouring end.

Has a large 2 3/4\" diameter carved wooden butt plug, held in by tiny hand-made iron nails.

In very good condition overall for its age. Horn has 2 tiny holes (shown). It has a nice curve and particularly nice natural horn markings.

This would look great for displaywith a musket, on the wall of an old house or over a fireplace, or with any Revolutionary War or other early military collection.

From my personal collection of early New England powder horns.
