This is an ingenious and very useful item to aid in "shining up the brass" buttons without staining the fabric of the uniform and dates from the mid to late 19th Century. This Button Cleaning Guard is constructed of brass and hinged on one side for easy utilization. It is well marked "N.S. MEYER Inc NEW YORK patent pending" on one side.
