Nice early 1800s Fulham Georgian stoneware jug w/hallmarked sterling silver lid :
$64.99

We are listing this very nice early 1800s Fulham Pottery Georgian sprigged salt glaze stoneware jug which was later made into a mustard pot with the addition of an 1845 sterling silver rim and domed lid by a London silversmith (possibly Solomon Royes). The piece also comes with a very nice cast figural pewter European mustard spoon, although it was likely made much later and added by a prior owner. The inside of the lid is marked with a lion passant, the date letter K (used in 1845-1846), and an SR maker\'s mark, and one side of the silver rim is marked with a lion passant, leopard\'s head, the same K date letter, a duty mark facing left, and the same SR maker\'s mark. This mark appears to be the the one registered in 1820 by London silversmith Solomon Royes (see page 188 of Grimwade\'s London Goldsmiths 1697-1837), however I saw one reference online which indicated Royes died in 1841, so I am not sure. Although the jug is unmarked (typical of old salt glaze) it was definitely made by the Fulham Pottery, which was founded in the late 1600s by the famous English potter John Dwight. The jug features the distinctive Fulham Pottery handle terminal from the early 1800s (see page 237 of Ivor Noel Hume\'s authoritative article on brown jug sprigs in the 2004 Ceramics in America). It also features two Fulham tree sprigs (page 227 of the Hume article), and a central putti procession sprig. With its lid and thumbplate the piece is 3.25 inches tall, 3.25 inches at its widest point, very nicely sprigged, has a fully hallmarked sterling silver rim and domed lid (in need of a good cleaning and polishing), a nice 5 inch long European pewter cast figural mustard spoon, and it is in very good condition. Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself (the silver rim and lid have not been polished). A very nice Fulham Georgian jug with a sterling silver top and a pewter spoon.
