Very nice cedar halibut hook by Haida artist Judy Helgesen who as a Northwest First Nations women has broken new ground by carving which was once strictly reserved for men. Very nice carving of a bird in flight. I\'m not sure what it has in it\'s mouth but it\'s well done. The barb appears to be bone and the twine is tightly wrapped. It is about 11\" long, 4 3/4\" high and 2\" wide. A very nice contemporary example of an old fishing tool.
