This is a really nice #658 Blue Jade iridized opaque glass candlestick holder designed and created in the early 1920s by Harry C. Northwood Glass Company of Wheeling, West Virginia.

\"Blue Jade\" was one of Northwood\'s unusually beautiful colors for the Rainbow Line of glassware introduced in 1921 for the Roaring 20\'s. Other colors included, Jade Green, Russet, Chinese Coral, and Topaz.

Very BriefBackground on Northwood & Dugan. ThomasDugan and his cousin, HarryC. Northwood, started out in the 1880s as employees at the Hobbs-Brockunier Glass firm inWheeling,West Virginia. Eventually, Harry would form the NorthwoodGlass Companyof Wheeling, West Virginia and Thomas would form the Dugan GlassCompanyof Indiana, Pennsylvania. Both companies were kingpins of thecarnivaland opalescent glass market in the early 1900\'s. Trading, swapping, or \"borrowing\" one another\'s glass moulds has beenspeculated. Northwood closed its doors about 1925, while Duganstopped producing iridized glass about 1912 and shut down altogether in the early 1920s.This candlestick is illustrated on page 136 of Harry Northwood: The Wheeling Years 1901-1925 by William Heacock, James Measell, and Berry Wiggins.
Condition. The candle is in excellent condition withnochips, cracks, orrestorations. The iridescence is likewise wonderful, evenly distributed with nice pinks.
... This candle is a greatexample of Harry C. Northwood glass and would make awonderful addition to any collectionof old EAPG, carnival, and opalescent glass, e.g., Fenton, Dugan,Westmoreland, Millersburg, Northwood, Sowerby, Brockwitz, Jefferson, Imperial, and others!
