Hand crafted in Barcelona, Spain, Nouveau 1910 jewelry implements all the same techniques that were originally practiced during the Art Nouveau era. This Nouveau 1910 piece is made with 18kt gold and enameling that is comprised of special glass mixed with metallic and iron oxides that provide muted colors that glisten in the light. Since each piece is made by hand, no two pieces are identical.

This gorgeous Mariposa Butterfly Fairy incorporates 18-karat gold, brilliant accent diamonds totaling one carat, one fiery teardrop opal and full wings of “plique a jour” enamelwork. It is so beautiful and elegant, it’s hard to take your eyes off of it. It is versatile too. It can be worn as a brooch, or you can easily add a chain and covert is to a necklace. Loops are located around the top of the wings, or you can run a chain lower on the piece (see pics).

Jewelry designer, Pere Arquer, creates designs that are like paintings by combining the poetic with classic beauty. He is known for nature motifs such as plants, flowers, the female shape, mermaids, garden life and the imaginative. Nouveau’s master artisans practice the same “plique a jour” that was used during the Art Nouveau epoch.

The “plique a jour” enameling seen on the wings of this butterfly fairy is applied layer by layer to the inside of each gold frame, resulting in muted colors and delicate shading that’s impossible to produce any other way. To achieve its brilliance and durability, each piece is baked more than 20 times at 1000+ degree temperatures, resulting in the luster you see accentuating every jewel.

This butterfly brooch was worn on special occasions, and is in excellent pre-owned condition. It can be used to dress-up an outfit or just add some individual style, as you most assuredly will be the only one in the room with this brooch. This design is rare. It is a beautiful and versatile accessory, and a special keepsake for you and your future generations.

ITEM SPECIFICS

This Mariposa Butterfly is made with 18K gold and 58 diamonds, approximately 1.0 ct. total weight. Also features a beautifully colored fiery ¼ carat pearl drop shape opal.

In addition to all of the exquisite craftsmanship in this piece, the coloring is wonderful as well. It features soft and medium shades of violet, periwinkle blue, luminescent yellow green, turquoise, sea green, and raised enamel accents in royal blue and mauve.

The butterfly weighs 35.19 grams.

The brooch/pendant measures 2.40”(61mm) x 2.87”(73mm)
