This is a very attractive antique Odd Fellows 2-sided Medallion-like item. It appears to be a locket since it slides open to reveal an empty case. One can paste down two favorite photos. Each cover features a different symbolic design. We are not jewelers, but the piece looks like it might be Alluminum or a similar metal. The locket is attached to a patriotic red, white and blue colour ribbon (possible added later). This item is from the Odd Fellows\' Shriner-influenced early \"Oriental Order of Humility and Perfection (O.O.H.& P.)\" which became the \"Ancient Mystic Order of Samaritans\". Their membership was restricted to only the highest ranking Odd Fellows. The locket is most solid and in very good vintage condition with only some normal expected minor wear (common light scratches). No problems. The locket itself measures approximately 1 ¾ inches. Including ribbon , it is around 4 inches in total length. This item also owes much to a shared legacy of Masonic traditions and teachings. It is a fact that \"Odd Fellowship\", both artistically and philosophically belongs to the history of Freemasonry. In spite of much continuous confusion regarding both groups, the historical kinship can not and should not be denied. Inspired by Freemasonry, the Odd Fellows as a movement came to America from England (splitting from the “Manchester Unity Order of Odd Fellows”) and by the 1880\'s they had become one of the largest (and due to their phenomenal insurance benefits, they at one time were THE largest) of all so-called \"Secret\" or Fraternal Societies in the United States (even outnumbering the Masons). While borrowing many Masonic symbols and regalia, such as the use of Aprons, images of Skulls, Beehives, the All-Seeing-Eye, Globes among hundreds of other Masonic elements and also following along the esoteric and spiritual lines of the Masonic Brotherhood, the Odd Fellows performed a wide variety of colorful and esoteric oriented rituals and initiations.
