In 1865 Georges Favre-Jacot, at the age of only 22, created what was to later become the core concept of the watch-making term ‘Manufacture’, and give rise to Zenith watches. Favre-Jacot brought various artisans involved in the watch-making industry together under one roof. He provided the basic facilities, including heat and light, that enabled these artisans to focus entirely on the design and making of their timepieces.

The ‘manufacture’ was born. The word manufacture derives from the French language where the word literally means a ‘manufacturing company’. In the watch-making industry ‘manufacture’ has come to be used to denote a factory where watches are made almost completely if not entirely - in particular, the watch ‘movement’, the principal elements and mechanism of a watch. Because Zenith, conceives, manufactures and assembles its own movements in its workshops in Le Locle, in Switzerland, it can be called a Swiss Watch Manufacture. A term and a guarantee of excellence that is rare for a watch brand today. Then, having created what he felt was the perfect watch movement, Georges Favre-Jacot went out and gazed up towards the starlit sky. The story goes; he saw a gigantic constellation turning around the Pole star. For Georges, the stars rotating around the axis of the Pole star recalled the movement of the pivots and the wheels on their axes in the movement he had just created. It was then he decided then to call his new movement, and its Manufacture, after the word that designates the highest point in the universe, zenith. He also adopted the star as the company’s logo. Georges Favre-Jacot retired in 1929, by which time Zenith had achieved watch-making history winning prestigious prizes and medals for timekeeping precision at international shows in Geneva, Paris, Barcelona, and Neuchвtel. In 1969, Zenith produced the world\'s first automatic chronograph movement, the El Primero. Besides this first, what makes this particular movement special is that it oscillating at 36,000 alternations per hour, and so it is able to measure short time intervals to a tenth of a second, an unsurpassed world record in 1969. In 1995, Zenith launched a new generation of ultra-thin movements, the Elite, which was recently voted best mechanical movement by the professional press. Zenith has been awarded over 1,500 prizes and commendations - making Zenith the most awarded Swiss brand. As a result of this exceptional reputation Zenith produces three of the most important mechanical movements of the luxury watch industry. These are the automatic integrated chronograph El Primero, the mechanical ultra-slim Elite movement, and the hand-wound 22-line 5011 K movement. Not satisfied with producing the world’s most sought after movements; in 2005 Zenith launched their first Haute Couture watch: the Starissime for, women. It is a tourbillion that has been decorated with 230 diamonds.

Info on German Military Watches - WWII Era:The German Army had special pocket watch and wristwatches for their Officers and special functions. (Deutsches Heer - german) - The German Army. Letters DH designated the watches made in Switzerland under the military order for Germany during the WWII. For Germans such watches were produced and retailed: ARSA (Auguste Reimond), Alpina, Mulco, Titus, Minerva, Record, Zenith, Silvana, Helvetia, Longines. And also (mixed up with German): Buren, Doxa, Dogma, Glycine, Gala, Mimo, Phenix, Record watch Co., Recta, Para, Leonidas, Revue, Tritona, Wagner, B.W.C., Grana, Helios, Moeris, Helma, Siegerin, Vogele, Zentra, Laco, Stowa ,Wempe, IWC, A. Lange & Sohne, Hanhart, Glashutte. The pocket as well as the wristwatch had screwed backs and were shock resistant. The dial was black with a small second hand with radium digits and hands. The back was marked \"D.H.\" (Deutsches Heer), with the case number. The watches were partly deployed and written into the soldier\'s book, and also sold to army staff. It is not entirely clear what D H stands for. Some writers suggest the D stands for Deutsches (Germany) and the H for Heer (Army). However, I prefer the interpretation given by Konrad Knirim ([link removed by ]), who has written that the D stands for Dienstuhr (Service Watch) and the H = Heer (Army). However, it is not entirely clear that DH watches were originally intended for the Army alone, given documented instances were the service record books of members of the Luftwaffe (Air Force) have been found with DH watch serial numbers written as issued to these troops. In addition to watches marked with D....H, there are some identical watches with only the letter D in front of the serial number and no H after the number. Collectors speculate that these D only watches were for the Luftwaffe. Others speculate that these watches were used by Para-military personnel such as those working in railroads. However, given that the WWII German records have been lost we really don’t know for sure how these watches were issued.

Dear Buyers, you need to understand; Antique and vintage watches - are very delicate and I always pack them in a good packing for high degree preventing of damage. High altitude flights, jolting, atmospheric pressure, extreme temperature changes, frequent loading and frequent carrying in delivery time to you; can be hard on watch. This can cause the oil viscosity to decrease (gumming), the watch-hands can dropped down and prevent the ticking of watch (the balance can\'t f freely etc.). For this reason I can\'t guarantee a perfect working of watch. It may need to be oiled when it arrive - regardless of its recent servicing. Although this is only a very slight possibility it can occasionally happen. Please bear in mind that you are buying used watch - which already more than 65 years old and it will require service, cleaning, lubrication and calibration etc.

Technical information:

* Diameter of the case with crown: 56mm

* Diameter of the case: 52 mm

Recommendations for the owner of antiquarian watches:All Antique and vintage watches are mechanical. Many repairs will not be cheap, as most likely they will require replacement of non-standard parts (unlike most late model watches).- Antique and vintage watches should not be beaten or dropped - because repairs may be expensive.
- Antique and vintage watches are generally NOT waterproof. This is because waterproofing was not in general production until the middle of the 20th century for most watches. Therefore you should protect your antique watch from exposure to moisture.
- If your watch becomes wet it should be dried off quickly. Carefully open all covers and use a hair drier to blow dry the movement, dial, covers, crown. This will reduce the amount of rust.
- If your watch becomes wet with any kind of salt water you should immediately immerse or spray your watch with fresh (no-salt) water to remove all the salt from the works before drying the watch completely. Any salt left in the watch will combine with moisture in the air to rust metal components of the movement, case etc.
- Winding any mechanical watch tight may break the mainspring. If you can avoid it do not wind the watch hard.
- When adjusting the hands of your watch, move them in a clockwise direction only. Counter-clockwise adjustments may damage the movement.
- If you must adjust counter-clockwise make it for small adjustments only (i.e. for minutes, NOT hours).
- Be careful and gentle when adjusting the movement speed (faster or slower). Don\'t make sharp movements, and don\'t touch other components in the movement especially the pendulum mechanism.
- Every 2-3 years it is necessary to service and oil vintage watches.
- IF the watch is dirty - allow the watch to run down, don\'t wind it again until you have it serviced by a qualified watch repair expert. Dust will absorb and remove important lubricants and cause the movement pieces to wear down.
- To clean the case, dial and crystal you should use a cloth that does NOT leave fibers as these may get caught up in the movement. Check with your Watch repair expert to get an appropriate cloth.
- Keep your antiques watch away from magnets. Strong magnetic fields may affect the accuracy of your watch since some vintage watches were made with iron based components in the movement.
- Most Cases and Covers are fine components and will not handle abuse well. The watch should not be shaken, beaten, or stressed.
- Antique watches generally experience an error of up to 5-10 minutes a day.Any accuracy of +- 5 minutes is very style=\"FONT-STYLE: italic; MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\">
