That is,the dispensation of over 900 old master drawings and paintings from acollection spanning 4 generations and 100 years. It has taken nearly all of ourtime and 6 months to get through the cataloging of this many drawings. This collection runs the gammut from highlysecondary artists and compositions to some of the biggest names of theRenaissance and beyond. While not every drawing will be sold on , you willsee some very high quality work here if you keep an eye on our site. Please beaware that all of our drawings that are for sale on are removed fromeither frame or mat, or both, for archival reasons and to reduce shipping fees.A lot of these mats were very old and carried acidic qualities that werepotentially damaging to the works. Drawings that were matted in paper such asthis are de-acidified in alkali blankets prior to sale and should be preparedto go another 500 years. We are prepared to make suggestions for archivalstorage and framing, but we do not include these items unless they are noted inthe description. For sale is an early renaissance northern Italian pen and ink drawing of angels. I would say, based on the style and the watermark in the paper, that this drawing dates from the last quarter 15th C to the first quarter 16th C, possibly earlier. The mannerist styles in the poses and fingers, and draperies is highly reminiscent of the northern Italian/Flemish influences. I have a few suggestions for attribution which I am somewhat loathe to disclose prior to sale, but if you want to trade emails afterword, I could give you my feelings on attribution of this drawing plus a very early drawing that I sold from this collection earlier this week. I have a feeling that they may be the same artist. At any rate, this drawing carries a six pointed star surmounted by a trefoil (briquet 4458 with less detail). The paper has a bit of surface soil which has not been cleaned. We will leave this one to the new owner if they want it cleaned. It certainly isn\'t excessive and it does not really detract from the image. It measures 27 X 19 cm which makes it fairly large and also explains the watermark. The collectors mark (same as the drawing sold earlier) remains an unidentified monarchy mark, it does add argument to authorship of this and the previous drawing sold. All in all one of the nicest drawings that we have in this set, and if you want to discuss this after the sale I will explain why I think this could be a serious purchase with a bit of research.
