A rare find - This is an original late 1850s to mid 1860s two piece visiting gown. The fabric is soft silk faille in a gorgeous shade of taupe, trimmed with matching shade satin piping and1.25\" wideband inserts.A combination of machine and hand stitching; this must have been extremely time consuming because each scallop is has satin piping that is hand sewn. The cotton buckram lined bodice is a nipped waist w an 8\" long peplum skirt. A very full Trained skirt that is lined in thin chintz buckram will accommodate a hoop or crinoline cage. In overall very good very clean condition, there is organic marks at the underarm that are not severe and the cotton waistband is coming loose almost all around the skirt and will need to be reinforced back to the skirt fabric. It is a smaller size, my usual form is a size 4 and the gown is too small so thus the reason I am only hanging the pieces to be photoed. Measurements are taken laying flat, closed and across; Bodice - Drop shoulders are 15\" across to the piped sleeve seams, 20\" waist, 20\" mid shoulder to bottom, 18\" long sleeves from shoulder seam to cuff; Skirt - 26\" waist, 41\" Front top of waistband to hem and 43\" Back top of waistband to hem. This very lovely gown will be a wonderful display and a fabulous addition to any serious collection.Please compare these measurements to those of your own similar item, as sizes can vary greatly between designers and decades.
