An original C.WW1 Northern Irish Ulster Volunteer Force Armband. The Ulster Volunteers were a unionist militia founded in 1912 to block self-government (Home Rule) for Ireland. It was then then part of the United Kingdom. The Ulster Volunteers were based in the northern province of Ulster. Here the unionists and Protestants were in the majority and Many Ulster Protestants greatly feared being governed by a Catholic-dominated parliament based in Dublin. They did not want to and lose their local supremacy and strong links with Britain. In 1913, as a direct response to this, a number of militias were organised into the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF).

Theyvowed to resist any attempts by the British Government to \'impose\' Home Rule on Ulster. In that same year, Irish nationalists formed a rival militia, the Irish Volunteers. These armbands were worn by members of the UVF and were based on military armbands of the period and manufactured in a khaki material. This example is in terrific shape and looks to have been hardly worn. These armbands have been copied in recent years but this is an original piece. Width of the armband when laid out is 15.5 inches from end to end.
