ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR 1840 type MODEL US CALVARY SWORD RARE MAKER K & C :
$325.00

This is a (US Model spec 1840) sword purchased in Mobil early 1990s that has K&C on the blade (the K may be a german H?). No federal inspection marks or other marks usual for a federal imported used sword. This Civil War sword was probably used by southern forces and imported before the blockade made import difficult. Both the north and south buyers purchased German swords at the start of the Civil War to arm the huge armies being formed on both sides.
There is no way to know for sure but it did come from Mobil Alabama from a family in that area for 200 years. We bought two swords from them featured in a cross sabre display in their family room. We used them also as a display. The first one was sold last month and now it is time for this one to go. We will miss them greatly!
Nice sword in good condition. Features some surface rust and most of the leather brass wire grip area is gone due to heavy use or exposure to the elements typical during combat operations. We have not ever cleaned this sword leaving it as found. The Germans made this up based on the 1840 heavy sword US spec full length 42\" overall with 36\" blade. Blade is nice straight. A perfect display of a long ago era. 42\" point to pommel end and 36\" long blade. These heavy \"wrist breakers\" were replaced with a new federal spec the 1860 lighter sword. Most of the 1860 spec found their way to the south through capture and not off shore purchase as the blockade of southern ports by the federals was in full effect by the time the new spec swords were being produced.
This sword does show heavy wear around the grip with light wear to the blade such as impact areas. While minor surface rust remains on this historical sword as we have NEVER cleaned it but have used machine oil to preserve it from time to time. Please remember that weapons used in the Southern Army passed from person to person as there was a shortage of equipment. what was available saw heavy consistent use and suffered some issues as a result.
We will ship day of sale m-f USPS well boxed free.
