This sale is for an Exciting original child\'s silk paletot or jacket from the Civil War period. Though frequently depicted in fashion plates of the period, these gorgeous miniature coats are relatively rare to find. This one is made of black silk taffeta lined with dark brown polished cotton, a classic choice for Civil War Era garments. It fastens with beaded buttons and loops. It is lavishly trimmed with torchon lace and novelty beaded trim at the shoulders, neck and cuffs. Mother\'s Little Darling went out in style! The style ofthe jacket is known as \"half-fitting\", meaning the waist is indicated by the cut, but the jacket is not closely fitted to the figure. Condition: The jacket has no significant issues as far as I can tell. The buttons have loose and/or missing beads.Measurements are: The chest is about 32 inches & the waist measures wider because of the flare. The front length is 17 inches. It measures 12 inches across the back and the sleeves are 12 inches long. The neck measures 12 inches as well. Please note: Measurements are approximate and should be taken as maximum.
