This is a Civil War period folding pocketknife. This knife is typical of the mid-19thcentury and represents the type of lightweight utility knife a soldier wouldcarry in the field for jobs like cutting leather or fabric, peeling vegetablesor fruit, cuttingsalt pork,cleaning a rifle/musket, opening mailfrom home, opening a ration packand many other daily tasks

Thefoldingknife measures 4-3/4\" long when closed and has a single blade anda setbeautifulaged horngrips.The blade measures 3\".The blade is tight with great snap but has been over-sharpened.There are no maker marks that I can see.

Thehorn gripsare nicely aged and in complete, very good condition except some age grime.
