US Army / USMCM1917A1\"Kelly\"Brodie HelmetZC0210 This is a US Army / USMC M1917a1 \"Kelly\" Brodie Battlehelmet.
It is in excellent condition. As part of the upgrade to the M1917 helmet, old helmets were repainted and textured, some as the one listed, were very heavily corked. Where some of the upgraded paint has fallen off of this helmet, the original paint can be seenunderneath.
Begining in 1936 the helmets were refurbished with a new liner and chinstrap, Early M1917A1 using M1917 shells were reconditioned with cork texture on the outside surface. Unlike the M1917 the new liner was adjustable and consisted of four leather tongues tied together with a leather draw string and mounted on to an aluminium skeleton.
The leather crown cusion was positioned usually over the tongues but many examples exist where it was positioned under.The chinstrap was fitted on \"D\" bales and is the same version as those fitted on the early fixed bale M1 helmets in 1941.
