This is a rare and stunning Victorian Japanese Aesthetic decorated Silver Plated Jewelry? Box, with the following stamping on the bottom:
\"QUADRUPLE PLATEWILCOX SILVERPLATE Co.MERIDEN, CONN.1725\"
It also has a small paper label that states:
\"The finish on this article will prevent all tarnish. Clean with a soft damp cloth only\"
The Victorian Aesthetic decoration on this box is outstanding! Please see all 4 sides and the terrific, wavy repouse top.
The engraved sides are extremely well rendered and have an oriental (in my opinion) type decoration.
With extensive internet research I could not find ANY other Wilcox pieces with this type of side decoration.
The box is in very good condition and even has the remains of it\'s red fabric (silk?) interior (which has a perfume smell). The fabric is torn and stained in places however.
The box measures about 7 1/4\" by 6 1/2\' by about 4\" tall. It weighs a little over 3 lbs.
Note - I don\'t have a key for it, but it is unlocked so there are no problems opening it.
The metal is in fine condition, with only some roughness to the back right hinge (perhaps an old repair). No matter, the repair is not seen from the top, front, or side views, and it is extremely minor! Also, the hinged lid functions with no problems whatsoever.
This is a terrific and rare Wilcox Box!
