Over 136 year old letters written to a Judson N.Trask of Nobleboro Maine between 1876-1880. Amazing condition for their age. Nearly all have envelopes, with most dated if not on the envelope than on the letter.
This lot contains love letters from his girlfriend Phronia.
The bulk of the other letters detail his family\'s whereabouts. His mother dies. His father leaves Maine, avoiding Indians as he moves to Nevada with a \"wife.\" A brother, an officer on Deer Island references a new device called the telephone! (See last photo). Over 50 letters written front & back with many running three or four pages, a 100 plus pages deep. It reads like a book or a diary especially when you read them in chronological order as I did. There are about 6-8 Love Letters in this lot. The rest are correspondence/letters from family to Judson. However, the love letters are delightful. I suspect the girlfriend to be in her early teens, not uncommon for this time period. She is infatuated, head over heels \"in love,\" with Judson. She writes well.
